Third class held a soccer blitz to get moving and healthy for January. They were divided into teams and had a great time. All the children enjoyed it and got some great exercise and are feeling a little bit more healthy as a result. Well done third class.

We had some great news in the school this week that Abeer in 5th class had won the Lidl colouring competition. It was a Christmas colouring competition and all the entries were of a very high standard. She won a voucher for Lidl, flowers and a hamper for her class. She also recieved a certificate. Well done Abeer.

5th class in Our Lady of Lourdes have been attending the Leanring Hub for 6 weeks and learning lots of things about technology and coding. They completed a 6 week Digital Technology workshop. During this workshop they wrote some computer programmes with Scratch. They manipulated images and photos with GIMP and they programmed Arduino boards to display flashing lights and also to display messages. They had a great time and learned a lot about working with computers and modern technology.

On Friday the 17th of November we had a CDKL5 awareness morning in our school. CDKL5 is a rare X-linked genetic dosorder that results in early onset, and severe neuro-development impairment. It is an orphan disorder, however more children are being diagnosed as awareness of CDKL5 spreads. Most children affected by CDKL5 suffer from seizures that begin in the first few months of life. Most cannot walk, talk or feed themselves, and many are confined to wheelchairs, dependent on others for everything. Mnay also suffer with scoliosis, visual impairement, sensory issues and various gastrointestinal difficulties. For more information please visit www.cdkl5.ie

The children in Our Lady of Lourdes had a fun morning. They took part in face painting, bingo, bulb planting and penalty shoot outs. They had great fun and learned a lot about CDKL5.

We recently had our award ceremony for October to recognise some of the fantastic things going on in the school. The children were presented with attendance certificates to recognise their excellent attendance. Other children were presented with Principal awards for student of the month and we also had Gaeilgoir na Míosa to recognise children who have made a special effort in October to speak Irish. Well done to all those who received awards.
