Message from the Board of Management

 Our Lady of Lourdes N.S.

 

The Board of Management of Our Lady of Lourdes N.S. meets  usually,every two months on the second Tuesday of the month. 

 

Fr Damian Ryan the Rev. Chairperson of our Board would like to thank the children, teachers parents and staff for the excellent standards they are achieving in the school.  He would like to wish everyone every success for 2012

The B.O.M. of Our Lady of Lourdes has accepted that the Staff have embraced the Croke Park Agreement. In effect, this means our teachers will  work  an extra 1 hour every week. These hours will be worked at the rate of one hour per week from 2.40 -3.40 every Mon. These hours will be utilised to facilitate Staff Meetings, Continuous Professional Development, Specialist Cluster Planning Meetings (Inter-Staff) e.g. Learning Support/Resource Teacher Plannings Sessions, Particular Planning Sessions within Class Groups e.g  Infants, Middle, Senior Classes.

  • And promotes the formation of the pupils in the Catholic Faith.
Our Primary school is a co-Educational school consisting of 188 pupils and 20 teaching staff. Our Lady of Lourdes School, October, 2010.

History of Our School

Our school was built in 1963 as an all Girls' School and was called Holy Child School. In 1979,Holy Child and St. Brendan’s Boy’s School amalgamated. Our school then became Our Lady of Lourdes School and is now Co-Educational. The Mid-West School for Hearing impaired Children share our school grounds.


Our school provides a pleasant and caring environment for all its pupils. There is a great welcome for visitors and parents are encouraged to actively partake in school activities.We have a dedicated H.S.L.T. (Home School Liaison Teacher). Courses are run within the school for parents e.g: Help Your Child with Homework, Parenting courses and Cookery to name but a few.


The boys from Our Lady of Lourdes National School have automatic right of entry to Crescent College Comprehensive.


Our Curriculum subject areas include; English, Irish, Mathematics, S.E.S.E Religion, S.P.H.E, Visual Arts, P.E. as determined by the Department of Education and Skills.

Our Junior Corridor -

Consists of the Junior & Senior Infant classes and the Early Start Class.

The Junior & Senior Infant classes consist of 18 and 24 pupils respectively. The Early start pupils consist of 15 per session. 

The Class teachers are Ms. Gallagher, Ms. Griffin, Ms. Abraham, Ms. O' Connor & Ms. Rickard,plus Child-Care Worker Pauline Kelly.

Early Start is a Pre-School Class for 3 year olds. It is a cheerful welcoming and child friendly setting . It is run by a qualified teacher and a qualified childcare worker, who help the children learn and develop through play.

There are two daily sessions with 15 Children per session. The morning session is from 9.00 - 11.30 and the afternoon session is from 12.00 - 2.30.

Early Start Programme: uses a wide variety of Educational toys: Jig saws, Beads, Blocks, Imaginative Play Area, Home Corner and Dress up Box.
The Early Start programme is also enhanced by allowing computer access to pre-schoolers via the specially designed "Kid Smart" computer installed in the room, which is specifically designed for Early Childhood needs.

Language Development is facilitated by Stories, Songs, Rhymes and Circle Time.

Our Early Start facility also provides a fun music programme involving parents and children alike called "Music for Fun" facilitated by a Creative arts Therapist

The Early Start Programme incorporates creative Arts:.
Music, Drama, Drawing, Collage and Painting.

Playdough, clay, sand and water are also used within the class room setting while out door play is afforded by the large State of the Art Playground. The wonderful garden provides access to the Outdoor environment where children can enjoy the garden and nature walks.

Other Extra Activities include access to the school library, Library/ Bookshop visits, Maths 4 Fun, Hip-Hop Dancing, Christmas Concert, Gardening and End of Year Graduation Day.

Our Middle School Corridor -

Consists of one first class, one second and one third class.

The Class teachers are Ms. Cleary, Ms. Binchy, Mr.O Dubhghaill and Ms. Cronin.

1st Class 2nd Class

Our Senior Classes -

Consist of one 4th Class, one 5th class and two 6th classes.

The respective teachers are Ms. Kennedy, Ms. Normoyle, Ms. O' Shea and Ms. Hayes.
